We arrived on the Island of Rarotonga at 5:30 in the morning on February 19, 2004. Rarotonga is the largest of the Cook Islands. The owner of Aroko Bungalows was there to drive us the 14 km to our bungalow. It is beautiful here but also very hot and humid. Our bungalow is small but cute with a great view out the back. We spent the first day touring the town of Avarua. We had dinner at the Staircase Restaurant and watched a Maori dance show. Dinner was only fair but the dancing was fantastic. People on the island are very friendly.
We spent a good part of the second day snorkeling off the beach near the Fruits of Rarotonga. You only had to swim out 20 feet to start seeing lots of fish.
We are starting to hear about very bad weather in New Zealand. They have apparently had lots of rain and flooding on the southern part of the North Island. We will arrive in New Zealand on February 23, 2004.
